New CATZ facility opens in Seattle Sounders FC Training Facility

CATZ Named One of Top 10 Gyms in America

photo

"I registered for a half marathon being held on February 3rd, 2008 and instead of my normal training schedule of "logging miles" I concentrated on the CATZ training sessions. Between Dec.'07 and Feb. '08 I did only 3 runs of 10-12 miles. However, since joining CATZ, I have religiously attended from 2 to as many as 5 sessions per week. During this time I have seen my "core" strength increase, my sprinting and recovery time improve. Well, I ran the Surf City USA half Marathon in cold blowing rain on Sunday morning February 3rd. To my surprise and excitement, I felt GREAT the entire race and turned in a Personal Best of 1:43:21 which crushed my previous best time by approximately 15 minutes! My next full marathon is in April and I can't wait to see how I do then! "

Athlete Profile

Phil McCammon, Judy Joos, Micha Vigue, Amy Romano, & Norm Barth

Hometown: Phil: Tempe, AZ...Judy: Chandler, AZ...Micha: Northlake, IL...Amy: Chandler, AZ...Norm: Philadelphia, PA
Sports: Phil: Currently, I’m trying to master Golf, but have run into many obstacles (trees, lakes, sand, swing thoughts, dead arms after CATZ workouts)...
Goals for next year: Phil: To stay employed and fit into a size 32 again...Micha: I WOULD LIKE TO LOSE ANOTHER 40 LBS...Amy: Make sure 40 is my most fabulous year yet!...Norm: Continue training with CATZ and help CATZ recruit other adults through living my new lifestyle that CATZ has helped me shape.
Academic Achievement: Norm: College Graduate, BSBA Business
Athletic Achievement: Phil: I spent several years as a competitive cyclist, raced with four different cycling clubs and was a founding member of the Landis Cycling team back in the 80’s. During my years of cycling I estimate that I logged around 75,000 miles of training. After getting back into shape through CATZ, I still try to log between 40-50 miles each Sunday.
I was also involved in the first mountain bike races held in Arizona. The first race was several loops around one of the small peaks in Papago Park. The road racers in those days had the advantage of miles of training, so the early mountain bikers made sure that they would throw plenty of technical obstacles our way in hopes that we would fall down and hurts ourselves, in this regard we would frequently accommodate them.
I also spent about four years as a competitive in-line skater and was a member of AIR (Arizona Inline Racers). Races were normally as short as a 5k, all the way up through a Marathon. This passion has also led to an accumulation of war wounds as we attempted to lose weight by scraping off most of the outer portion of our skin...Micha: I HAVE LOST 45 LBS WITH CATZ IN 6 MONTHS...Norm: Collegiate Football, Basketball and Tennis.
How you got started with CATZ: Phil: As with a lot of the adults, I was referred to the program by a parent of one of the kids going through the program with a soccer team. Actually, I was sort of shamed into it because of how much I had let myself go. The CATZ approach has been truly remarkable. I had begun to resign myself to a very sedentary lifestyle with no chance or regaining some of the fitness levels of my earlier years. I’m addicted to the program now, and only hope that I can continue for many months and even years to come...Judy: My sister asked me to be part of her team during the 1st CATZ Fitness Challenge in April 2008. It's been a life-changing experience....The CATZ Trainers are knowledgeable and they keep it safe, fun, and definitely challenging. Along with the workout, I also did Physical Therapy on my right shoulder twice a week at the CATZ facility. Completing with full mobility, I am much stronger and healthier than ever. I attend CATZ 3 to 4 times a week. My husband has also added CATZ to his exercise regime. I love it and am addicted. Through the nature of competitiveness, you'll always push yourself to the next level. It's not "just a workout," it's a TOTAL WORKOUT...the best you'll ever get. And the results, you'll be amazed...Micha: IN FITNESS CHALLENGE 2. TEAM WALMART. CATZ HAS HELPED TO KEEP ME MOTIVATED IN MOVING FORWARD. THE COACHES HAVE ALWAYS PUSHED ME AND HELPED ME ACHIEVE MY NEXT GOAL. EACH SESSION MAKES ME FEEL STRONGER AND MORE CONFIDENT ON WHAT I CAN DO...Amy: My 10-year old son attended CATZ as part of his tackle football training/practices. I watched and was completely certain even one class would all but kill me. But I tried it anyway. Survived it. Signed up for the CATZ 8-week Fitness Challenge. And now – 20 weeks and almost 60 pounds later - I’m addicted!! Completely. I love every butt-kicking, sweat-dripping, muscle-fatiguing minute of every class (especially the ones that last extra long), and can’t imagine CATZ not being a part of my day. The team environment is what really makes the difference. I like going to the gym, but I LOVE going to CATZ. The coaches and adult athletes are GREAT, and the challenge, responsibility and accountability of not only keeping up with, but also motivating the other folks is real inspiration. In every class I can see where I was and where I want to be and I know the job is mine to get there. It’s fun. Every day is different and challenging. The people are tremendous. BClark’s singing is awesome!...Norm: Sons Soccer Club was introduced to CATZ in July of 2008. THE HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING AND THE EATING PLAN HAVE COMPLETELY RESTORED MY METABOLISM AND RESHAPED MY BODY AND MY MIND.

Getting to know Phil McCammon, Judy Joos, Micha Vigue, Amy Romano, & Norm Barth:

Most memorable moment.
Phil: This is a tough one; I guess from a personal perspective, it was my first stage race championship in Los Alamos, NM. I won the road race in a sprint finish, lost 34 seconds in taking 2nd on the second stage hill climb time trial, and had to win all the time bonuses and the final sprint in the final criterium race, and won the overall by 6 seconds...Amy: Most favorite CATZ Exercise: Med ball sit-ups. Lawn mowers. Stability ball bench press. Ladders and/or hurdles in the warm-up. Med ball toss. Least favorite CATZ Exercise: Broad jumps. Anything with those stupid rubber bands. Skips of any kind. Burpees! (Seriously...Why?)...
From a team perspective, it was when I was coaching a girls soccer team and playing in the semi-finals of one of the summer indoor sessions. Our team had a single goal going into the season, and that was to make it to the championship game. The team we were playing in the semi’s had cleaned our clocks earlier in the season, and usually dominated us every time we meet them outdoors as well. We were down 4-2 midway through the 2nd half, when that magically momentum shift took place, with our girls scoring the winning goal in the last 10 seconds of the game.
Oh Yeah, can’t forget the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl also!!!!!!!...

Specific academic goals or career choices in mind?
Amy: Continue to grow my Public Relations, Brand and Marketing Communications business. Maybe even expand my client base to include a Competitive Athlete Training Zone...

Describe a moment or obstacle you have had to overcome. What did you learn from that experience?
Phil: Just over a year ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent surgery to remove it. While this type of operation is normally fairly straight forward, I was one of the unlucky few who ended up with some severe complications. I think this was about the point where I began to look at my life and started to resign myself to an outlook of slim hope of turning things around. The CATZ Adult Fitness challenge was a godsend to me, and has reminded me that all it takes is a few small steps forward in the right direction to make the right changes. It doesn’t hurt to have BLee and BClark in your face pushing you to your limits (well maybe it hurts a little)...

Who is the most influential person/people in your life?
Phil: Being the excessive compulsive that I am, it is extremely difficult to point to one person. I have been involved sports and in the workplace for over 35 years, and I am continued to be amazed at the talent and gifts possessed by those who find it to the top whether in sports or business. But most of all, I am in awe of those who have achieved supreme happiness no matter what their station in life is...Judy: My husband Dennis. My best friend Teri. The CATZ Team...Amy: Has to be my children. Everything I do has an impact on them, and knowing that has an impact on everything I do. CATZ has shown me that everyone has an “inner athlete”… no matter his or her age or fitness level. If I can do it …TRUST ME … anyone can!...Norm: THE WHY? What I’ve accomplished over the last four months has changed my life in a very profound way. My father died in June and it was at that point when I realized that I had to do something different in order to ensure I have a good quality of life for the next thirty or forty years. My Dad was always very well dressed and current with treads so as a young adult we would share clothes, shirts, ties, trousers, etc. In August I went to his closet and tried on some pants and shirts only to be frustrated that I could no longer fit into his wardrobe. Today, his clothes are too big for me. It’s a bit of a bummer because the Tommy Bahamas Slacks and custom made suits are in abundance in his closets.
THE HOW? Brian Lee gave me a Fitness Challenge 3 Flier, and I jumped in. October 20th the Challenge began. Through Challenge 3 & 4 I’ve found my inner athlete once again. The eating plans and suggested food choices made the nutrition aspect of the training very easy. Follow the eating plan and do the training and you will get fit and lose weight, PERIOD. I am no longer taking meds for my high blood pressure and I’ve cut my life insurance premium in half. The success formula, combined with the dedication of Brian, Brian, Courtney and Kai made the last several months enjoyable. The CATZ Philosophy is difficult to describe. You have to experience it for yourself. Believe me I know, since I cannot go anywhere where I know people without literally having a crowd gather to listen to what I’ve done to lose 40lbs and 10% Body Fat.
