“The Biggest Loser” program comes to CATZ-Needham

photo

"I registered for a half marathon being held on February 3rd, 2008 and instead of my normal training schedule of "logging miles" I concentrated on the CATZ training sessions. Between Dec.'07 and Feb. '08 I did only 3 runs of 10-12 miles. However, since joining CATZ, I have religiously attended from 2 to as many as 5 sessions per week. During this time I have seen my "core" strength increase, my sprinting and recovery time improve. Well, I ran the Surf City USA half Marathon in cold blowing rain on Sunday morning February 3rd. To my surprise and excitement, I felt GREAT the entire race and turned in a Personal Best of 1:43:21 which crushed my previous best time by approximately 15 minutes! My next full marathon is in April and I can't wait to see how I do then! "

Goals for next year: More of the same of this year! The Fitness Challenges with weekly goals that they set and the weekly weigh-in sessions is what worked for me. I am pretty sure if I just did the trial session and had not signed up to do the challenge I would have quit day 1. However, I am all about accountability – I couldn’t give up that easily. The workouts are different every time which helps keep the variety and interest! Believe in yourself…if only for eight weeks…and do a challenge!! No amount of money can compare to how you will feel after the eight weeks, and that is just the beginning!
Academic Achievement: ASU Graduate – Go Sun Devils!
Athletic Achievement: At the beginning of this year I was 40lbs heavier and ached every day. I justified the aches and pains with “getting older”. I joined the Fitness Challenge 4 and my WHOLE world and outlook changed. The first session I thought I was going to die! It was as if I had been smoking for years, with a lung capacity of zero and I have never smoked! I kept saying to myself, “just wait till the week 8 and I will look back on this day and know how far I have come” that was my motivation to get through DAY 1! I went home that night and told my 14-year old soccer player (who regularly attended CATZ, and complained about it frequently), “I will never tell you to suck-it-up again (after a CATZ workout)”. I started out counting down the number of workouts I had left to ADDING workouts in by week 4. Each work out got a little better. Since January, I have done more physical activity (hiking, running, etc.) than I did the previous 42 years of my life combined! I no longer have the aches and pains, unless it is from a BClark workout , and I have never felt better! The Fitness Challenge started out as a way to lose weight and what I have learned is a whole new way of life! I am a different person – physically and emotionally – one I like a whole lot better now. Oh, and I am back to telling my 14-year-old “suck-it-up…if I can do it you can too!”…he’s far too smart to complain to me now!
How you got started with CATZ: A few of our parents from the soccer team joined Fitness Challenge 3 and couldn’t stop talking about…and I mean really couldn’t stop talking about it…and pretty soon the results spoke for themselves! So, when the next challenge came around, I decided to try it. I have never been successful about following a diet or exercise program for any length of time, but I told myself if I can’t stick to this (the nutrition part as well as the exercise part) for 8 weeks, I must be pretty pathetic – 8 weeks out of 42 years of my life is nothing! Eight weeks later I had lost 21 pounds and ready for the next challenge!

Getting to know Tiffany Fletcher:

Describe a moment or obstacle you have had to overcome. What did you learn from that experience?
On or about week 4 of the first challenge I didn’t make weight…missed by .4. I thought to myself, I am never going to miss by .4 again! I hadn’t cheated on the diet and I had probably been to 4 workouts that week, so knew I had to step it up. So, I started adding layers of clothing to the workouts…of course I had seen those working out in sweatshirts before and couldn’t fathom EVER wearing more than a short-sleeved shirt for fear of sweating to my death…and before you knew it, I became one of them – wearing long sweat pants, two or three short-sleeved shirts, and a sweatshirt. I didn’t realize until that moment how competitive I really was…not about competing against everyone else, but competing against myself!

Who is the most influential person/people in your life?
My entire family and friends’ network! They have been there for me every step of the way!! Their constant encouragement and compliments keep me and my willpower going!! I would not be where I am today without all of them!!!
