Shaylon D. Rettig, MD is the President of CATZ Sports San Antonio and Youth Sports Treatment and Fitness. Dr. Rettig graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he was a four-year starter on the Men’s Basketball team, helping his team to a berth in the NAIA National Tournament his senior year.
Dr. Rettig attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his pediatric residency and served as pediatric chief resident at Pitt County Memorial Hospital/Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He is currently enrolled in the MBA program at East Carolina University College of Business.
Dr. Rettig completed his pediatric sports medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio under the tutelage of Jorge Gomez, MD. Dr. Rettig is the contracted medical director and sports medicine consultant for the South San Antonio Independent School District. Dr. Rettig has served the past two years as the DFW Medical Director for Breast Cancer 3-Day walk.
Jorge Gomez, MD, MS

Jorge E. Gómez, MD, MS is the Managing Partner of CATZ Sports San Antonio and Medical Director of Youth Sports Treatment and Fitness. He is head of the clinical operations that include sports medicine, physical therapy and weight management services. Dr. Gomez graduated from Stanford University where he participated in NCAA Division I Track and Field as a triple jumper.
Dr. Gómez has gained national acclaim as an expert in the field of pediatric sports medicine. He serves both as a Professor with Tenure in the Department of Pediatrics and director of the Fellowship Program in Pediatrics Sports Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Among Dr. Gómez accomplishments include his achievement as a Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar from 1996-2002. He served on the Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness of the American Academy of Pediatrics from 2000-2006. He also provided aid as a volunteer physician at the United States Olympic Training Center in 1997.
Currently, Dr. Gómez serves as the Director of Athletic Medicine for the University of Texas at San Antonio, and is the contracted team physician and medical consultant for the Edgewood and Southwest Independent School Districts in San Antonio.
