From Tragedy to Triumph: U.S. Wins Gold

"I registered for a half marathon being held on February 3rd, 2008 and instead of my normal training schedule of "logging miles" I concentrated on the CATZ training sessions. Between Dec.'07 and Feb. '08 I did only 3 runs of 10-12 miles. However, since joining CATZ, I have religiously attended from 2 to as many as 5 sessions per week. During this time I have seen my "core" strength increase, my sprinting and recovery time improve. Well, I ran the Surf City USA half Marathon in cold blowing rain on Sunday morning February 3rd. To my surprise and excitement, I felt GREAT the entire race and turned in a Personal Best of 1:43:21 which crushed my previous best time by approximately 15 minutes! My next full marathon is in April and I can't wait to see how I do then! "

Road to Beijing Starts in Anaheim

Anaheim, California, Dec, 2007 — Two to three times a week these beach pros are working on their speed, strength and agility at CATZ in Anaheim. Misty May-Treanor just came off her best season ever where she became the winningest female volleyball player ever and was again voted best defensive player. Her protégé April Ross had her own stellar season picking up the most improved player on the AVP tour award.

The AVP beach tour includes 18 tournaments from April to September. It is a grueling schedule for the fittest athletes and those tournaments take their toll on the body. On top of the domestic tour, the top players participate in the FIVB international tour that runs almost concurrently causing some players to choose one tournament over the other on given weekends. International tournaments have much more award money and points earned at these events are what counts for Olympic bids.

By the end of the season, these players are exhausted but after a month or so off, the training begins again. Having already earned an Olympic bid, May-Treanor plans to stick with the formula that worked so well last season. “Working out at CATZ makes the games easy.” says May-Treanor.

See you in China.
