CATZ athlete named to Super Y-League ODP team

SYL ODP '88-'90 Girls National Camp
Super Y-League Select Team Named

Sunday, January 28

COCOA, FLORIDA – United Soccer Leagues Super Y-League ODP National Camps concluded today with teams in both the ‘88/’89 and ’90 girls competing in one last team match. Directly following the match, players selected to the camp all-star game handed coaches and scouts a preview of the finest up-and-coming talent in North American youth soccer. Following the matches the coaching staff gathered for a final selection meeting to decide the 2007 Super Y-League Select Team.

“The girls side of youth soccer in North America needed a camp like this to rival the showcase opportunities available to the boys,” said San Jose State University Coach Chris Behler. “There were top level players here. It was a good opportunity for them to gain experience in preparation of the next level. In college, these girls will be expected to come together quickly,” added Behler. “They definitely have the ability to do that from what I have seen here.”

“Now that these coaches have seen how high the level is at the Super Y-League ODP National Camps, they will have a better understanding of the type of quality we are looking for. These camps will only get better and better as the selection process improves.”

One of the top players in the ‘88/’89 group was defender Sarah Brown of Cleveland Soccer Academy.

“The Super Y-League ODP National Camps were very well organized,” said Brown. “A lot of tournaments tend to throw things at you that you do not expect. The coaching staff did a great job of getting us all on the same page.”

“I like the exposure the Super Y-League gets you,” added Brown following the match. “Your name does get around by playing here. Coaches from all the different schools here communicate.”

About the ODP National Camps

Over the course of the season, the top U.S. players in the USL Super Y-League were selected by the ODP Scouting System to attend the ODP National Camp. During an intense three-day combine at the ODP National Camp, players will be evaluated by ODP Staff Coaches and US Soccer National Coaching Staff for U.S. National Team Programs. During this time, players will learn the demands to compete at the highest levels of the game. In addition to the primary focus of identifying players to U.S. National Team Programs, many collegiate coaches will be scouting players for college soccer programs.
