CATZ CONGRATS THE DTH 92 RED

Article From US Youth Soccer

The US Youth Soccer National League Under-17 Boys, the last of the six age groups to finalize League standings, wrapped up the season this weekend with two make up games played at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn. The weekend’s results named Lower Merion Velez (E-PA) as the National League Under-17 Boys champion and Dallas Texans – Houston 92 Red (S-TX) as the runner up.

Through their success in the League, Lower Merion and the Texans both punch their ticket to the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass.

The Texans and Cobb FC (GA) game was set for Saturday, April 18, but storms in the Jackson, Miss., area forced the teams to reschedule for Sunday morning.

Cobb opened with an early 8th minute shot by Jamal Keene, but ten minutes later, Alexander Suarez hit the Texans’ equalizer for a 1:1 tie. The game was tied at the half and the Texans knew they needed a win if they were going to advance to the National Championships by earning one of the top two spots in their age group in the National League.

Anderson McDaniel answered that call with a 55th minute goal to put the Texans ahead 2:1. Marcos Escobar followed up with a 69th minute shot of his own that led to the Texans 3:1 victory over Cobb.

The top two teams in each age group earn a direct path to the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships.
